Success factors
We broke away from a typically myopic geocentric approach to gis maturity model development. We studied and incorporated success factors used to measure and guide success of large established enterprise software implementations such as CRM & ERP. Our model represents the most common and effective factors seen in literature review and online from both geo and IT spheres of influence.
Factor first principles
1. Slimgim factors are measures of success.
2. Low scoring factors serve as action items.
3. Grouping factors into initiatives is architecture.
4. A completed maturity model is your GIS roadmap.
Example:
You've just completed your first assessment & identified that the following factors have a score of 2 but with a high likelihood (4) to improve:
1.3 Formal GIS governance
2.7 Core competency improved with training plans
The actions become:
1.3 Institute formal GIS governance (steering committees, working groups and stakeholder involvement).
2.7 Develop and deliver competency & training plans.
